The Centre for Travel Writing Studies (CTWS) at Nottingham Trent University

ABOUT US

the Centre for travel writing studies (CTWS)

We define travel writing broadly, although with the understanding that it relates to real journeys undertaken by the authors themselves, and we encourage multi and cross-disciplinary approaches to it.

The Centre for Travel Writing Studies (CTWS) has particular research strengths in Anglophone travel writing from the eighteenth century to the present day, with specialisms in:
  • Travel writing by neglected and/or marginalised groups or individuals
  • Travel writing that is radical in its politics and/or form
  • The creative practice of writing about travel, especially in its poetic form, and its relationship to the critical study of travel writing

The CTWS, which was founded in 2002, has strong international links, arranges talks and readings by visiting speakers and organises seminars and conferences.

The Centre welcomes applications from students wishing to work on travel at Master's or doctoral level.
